Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

not fish related but kinda cute anyway

hedgehog rescue. a few days ago my kids found a baby hedgehog in my dads farm yard, ill keep it over winter and feed it up fit to be released next spring in my veg garden, hopefully it will stay around and munch up all the pesty slugs for me.

thats my 9 year old boys hand, so the hoggy is tiny but very cute.

Paul,
I think the little lad will need some attention with regard to feeding up prior to hibernation, you might want to do a bit of 'googling'.
It's often a case that late-born youngsters struggle a bit to put on enough 'reserves' to sustain them through the winter hibernation.
Please keep us informed as to progress - I really like hedgehogs but sadly the last one here fell into the pond and drowned before I spotted it to rescue the poor soul.

sorry bout the poor soul that met an untimely demise in your pond. im not new to rescue hoggys, this little lad was late born but the kids are gathering up earth worms daily and he is eating all he can get including tinned cat food. im keeping him in an old gerbil cage in the house so he may not even hibernate in the house warmth and keep growing over the winter.ill keep ye posted as to how he is doing.

Well done Paul,
If you can get your hands on some mealworms,
Pinkies, and cat food they go nuts for them
All the best with the little critter!

But it takes real skill to be a fish keeper,

Just gorgeous creatures...it has been 30 years since I last saw one in person....all this city living ain't great for appreciating wildlife....I get to see lots of city foxes but no such joy with the old hedgehogs...I look forward to seeing more updates on the little guy

he is kinda cute ok, the kids called him spike, what else would you call a hedgedhog :silly:. im over 50 years living on a farm and only seen 3 up close and personal so living in a city does not mean you wont see much wild live. this has being a realy special year for me as last month i saw and got a pic of a stoat trapped between some old storage boxes, the cats had it trapped there and man was it mad like a devil on steroids.
