Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

How about a Marine Camouflage set-up? where all the inhabitants use colours or shape to change their appearance?

Like Seahorses or inverts etc.

Yep Sean, I am no longer active on that Website, there are enough people looking to get information on the public, the Government included, I guess that's me out. I won't rejoin, neither will I advocate or advertise that site.

why not a tank with on one side a group of lamp. similis or multifasciatus with shells on a coral sand base and vallis , then some nice rockwork features on the other end some juliochromis dickfeldi for that side and then Paracyprichromis nigripinnis for the upper level... thats my opinion

Madagascar Tank!!!

Fast flowing stream, graduating from shallow to deep in the shallow bit. Anubias on wood, emerged.
Crinnium and Aponogeton madagascaris in the flow (2 x FX5?)
Aponogeton Ulvaceous + Boivanus etc (a few!) in the deep bit, with possibly a tropical lilly.
Killies and rainbows.
Would look fab.

Just been told that if I bring home another tank, it will be over "MY DEAD BODY", so if you want you can have the back bag containing the "body"complete with concrete shoes as a center piece for a mafia style aquarium

Crazy idea for a tank but would have to be made in acrylic. Don’t see how it could be done in glass. Referring to the attached pic, one side fresh, the other side salt. Lots of plants in the fresh side and liverock with corals on the other but only in the areas indicated. With a translucent divider between the 2 environments, would result in freshies against freshwater backdrop and vice versa :) Would obviously require 2 separate filtration systems.
I know 1M diameter acrylic tubes are commercially available in lengths of up to 2m. Could get away with 100 cm diameter and 50cm deep. THis would give a tank volume of 392l ignoring the volume of the acrylic. SO realistically about 180l for each side.
Now for the stock to add  haven’t given that too much thought. I think SA cichlids for the freshies, and perhaps a saltie community set-up for the other side.
As I said, its a crazy idea, but I would love to see it in the flesh so to speak. Something different to think about :)
Might try it myself if I ever win a lotto jackpot :)
