Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

not posting to show off any aquascaping skill (I have none) but more to show how much growth can happen in less than 2 months. I've been doing regular water changes but in the last 3 weeks I've let the pruning slide

Its good to have those time shots.
Usually the growth creeps up on you and you dont really notice it.
I thought the vallis would have had more runner shoots though,
perhaps theyre all still connected. If the runners were cut
then they would all be sending out new ones.

there's one shoot pushing up through the hydrcotyle in the video. since then there have been three more. i'm kind of glad it's a bit self contained though, because nothing else is!

The plants obviously appreciate the musical accompaniment - why wouldn't they?

They've been...Thunderstruck!!!

one of the things that pleased me most was that the water change I did before that video, the nitrates were waaaay down. I graciously accept the credit for my plants' achievements

Fantastic looking tank lemon!! Great job...what fertiliser do you use? Also a question on the vallis. I added a spiral leafed vallis to mytank a few weeks back and it literally seemed to melt away...will it regrow or is it just done? Thanks....

I use ProFito and EasyCarbo. As for the Vallis, does it have any leaves left? If it does, I'd be inclined to leave it a while and see if it bounces back. I've never had a problem with Vallis not thriving but I have had other plants not do so well when they're planted initially, even yellowing and "melting". I think some just need a period of readjustment to the new parameters

plants can be so tricky like that. you give them the parameters you think they need and they do nothing, then something changes and BOOM!

I had a fine row of Vallis along the back/side of my tank.
They were spreading into the centre then to the front.
Now I'm left with just one that doesnt know if its coming or going.
I've been out of easycarb for awhile so I'm now trying to
schedule daily doses again. Fingers crossed.
Anubias and crypts and swords doing well though.
wendelov is more stagnant, did die back before but revived it
in a 60L.
Might get the profito too.

I bought my vallis in MaxiZoo in Sandyford; one healthy plant and the guy there, Mark, gave me another 2 for free cos they were rotted to basically one leaf and a bit of root (great staff in MaxiZoo generally!). All my vallis comes from those three plants
