Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Nice fish is right - that's a nice collection.

IS there something else in with the Angels? (upturned pot & tubes?)

I wouldn't mind betting the 66s made short work of the Angels' eggs after 'lights out'!

yes john, they possibly did although the old striped male was really determined to devour them and the young pair were unable to fend him off.

how did the wee plecs travel and settle in for you?

Thanks again.

Thanks for the comments ian and andreas.
the video comprises four tanks. The first one is a 350L mixed Malawi set up of fish I am growing on and comprises 40 demasoni, 10 esterae, two male otophananx and a few others. All of these fish are between 3 to 6cm. The 2nd 200L tank has a beautiful pair of zaire frontosa which I acquired recently and am conditioning at the moment. The 400L mixed tanganyikan tank has a pair of xenotilapia and an adult group of leptosoma with some L numbers and young synodondis leucopinnis. There is no noticeable predation and the adults release their fry with no problems. There is about 50 young now and ever increasing.
The angels are a mixed group mostly young adults, some of which I acquired recently added to some of my own and are being conditioned for the future.

I am interested in this question being answered:

in the reason for editing on the first post, you say "tone down title"....... what was the original title ?

ha ha very good john. But the real answer is, the original title was simply "nice fish" and it was pointed out to me that some readers might deem this as a bit arrogant lol.

This beauty has just spawned with his female. But he's a rough bugger and I hope the female can cope with his attention till she has properly fixed the eggs.

so far so good, She still appears to be brooding and as she is past the first few crucial days, I will separate the parents. I hav'nt decided to partition or remove either the male or female.

This is a tiny pair of apistos that spawned in secret and are now having a fierce time of it trying to defend the fry from their tankmates of corys and plecs. I doubt that the catfish are after the fry but the parents are certainly making sure to keep them at a distance. all the fish, apisto parents and the catfish are small fish at about an inch or so.

That's good Derek, thanks for sharing it.
It's not always the way that the male Apisto - especially with the Cacs - gets so involved in parental duties, quite often it's all just left to 'mum'.

Nice to see - any news on the Frontosas?

The Apistos are certainly giving it to the poor little Hypancistrus. The poor little fella doesn't know why he's been slapped.

Nice collection of videos and fish.
The demasoni and esterae look great together. Nice color combination.

Great news on the Frontosa.

thanks john and Darren, the frontosas are now separated but I delayed too long before removing the female and will have to allow her to rebuild strength before reintroduction.
Darren that little plec is one of yours (are they L28?)and the apistos were barts. There is about twenty plecs and 10 corys in that tank and it is amazing to see the poor wee cichlids trying to keep them at a distance, esp at feeding time. I contemplated removing either the cats or cichlids but its not really feasible till the fry grow a bit.
