Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I only have one project in mind for this year and that is to setup a tank like this I love the big fish they look like river monsters. Does anyone know if a shallow 8ft tank would work or do they need height along with length

I am really looking forward to seeing yours set up, I think my 7 x2 x 2 is sold but trying to get into my House would have been a nightmare!

Cheers Brian,

An Ozzie living up north, said he'd been looking for one in the UK but the carriage here was close to the price of the Tank itself.

 such a shame I would have even went to the bother of swapping for a trailer load of turf and driving the tractor up to Dublin lol what tank are u going to get now? I know what u are saying about it being hard to get a big tank into the house I taught I would have to take out the sitting room window to get in mine.

The windows were the only option for me but to be honest, the possible damage to both Tank and Windows was too much and also timing it would have been too hard.

Both windows have gone at the seals, in other words, the units have failed and need replacing.

Wow lads whats all this about?I was pointing out that most of the stuff in this tank has nothing to do with South America.......which will be informative to some people out there who do not know any better.....it is called contributing.......so why the gay girly replies...........maybe someone should help John down from the fence remove the big fat splinter and set the record straight here......now i could be wrong maybe the aquarium itself was made in South America.....then it is truly a South American set up with most non South American stuff in it......or did you guys not know any better?

Maybe this is why half the fish keepers i know say they don't post up on the forum because of all the grief.......I on the other hand think this forum is well run and managed by our finest..........

IAn

Nice Arowana though...

Ian I know nothing about South American cichlids or fish maybe when I have more experience with fish keeping there will be less posts that upset you as they say you learn something new everyday and that's the fun with fish keeping.
