Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hey I recently lost pretty much all of my fish from a really bad double barrel case of white spot and a fungal infection

I was so annoyed cause i had some lovely fish and if i had of spotted it a few days earlier i could have stopped it all

The only thing that survived it all was 3 otto's

I decided that it was time for a fresh look to it all so i gutted the tank got rid of some old plants and got some new one's, got rid of the dull gravel and replaced it with sand

So now im back to square 1

I've got 8 cardinal's and 12 Penguin tetra as well as 3 otto's (the lil' soldiers haha) 4 corydoras a few small shrimp and a green phantom pleco

Here is my tank the way it looks now

Apologies on the camera work haha

I wanna put 2 big fish into it i was thinking Discus but i dunno what to do:)

Discus might be an idea,(haven't kept them myself so I dunno for sure)
Angels might also be an option?

thanks im gonna put a few red rock pieces into as well and yeah i've always liked the idea of some leaf litter in the bottom of it if anyone knows how i go about this please let me know

the sand looks better but it also gets dirty very quick but i suppose that'll just motivate me to do more frequent water changes

i have a few shrimp in it already don't wanna put frogs in they'll munch my cardinals & penguins when the get bigger:)

the new tank looks great. sorry to hear about your wipe out there is nothing worse. I have never kept Discus so I dont know much about them but the dwarf frogs I presume are the tiny brown ones you see in the shops. These dont grow much bigger then they already are as the name suggests but you are right about the albino frogs that you see. They grow huge and will eat everything that will fit into their mouths. Bala sharks are a nice fish when they get big and would look nice in your tank.

Anyway good luck with it as it develops

The fish in it are
8 Cardinals
12 Penguin Tetra's
4 Cory's
2 Discus
3 Otto's
