Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hopefully these video’s will give you some ideas on the size of the hall for the First International Cichlidentage 2009 in Duisburg, Germany , I went to FOUR different places on the mezzanine floor (from where all the talks were given, most in German but some in English) to try and shoot the video’s. I had never used the camera before Duisburg so please excuse the below average quality of the videoing. We have shown the complete Photo and Video slideshows at our I.M.A.S. meeting in October but still not great at getting it onto the web, hope you enjoy.

Good video work Tom.
The place looks very well set up.
I would say you were spoilt for choice for goods and plenty to see.

after looking at the videos i am mad jealous that i couldn't go this time around.(personal reasons)
anyway i have to say fair play lads, as the first official IMAS trip away, this will be hard to beat.
Its great that a club that is only started a while ago can manage to go to a show as big as Duisburg.
Just shows the commitment of everyone involved in making it happen.
Looking forward hearing a bit about the show and the other places that you guys went to

regards

daryn

Hi Daryn,
To make you more jealous:woohoo: ;)
We started our trip with an upgrade from a standard car to a Mercedes S-class(took us all 4 days to figure everything in it out). First stop was the show in Duisburg. A massive place which is fishkeepers heaven-leaves no wishes open! The videos of Tom, thanks by the way, they give only a small impression of the size and more important the quality of the show. Thanks to Joe`s T-Shirts with the I.M.A.S logo on them (Tom's better half), we rose the attention of a few "lads" in our hotel. After a while it came out that we were dining with some Icons of the fishkeeping: Heiko Bleher, Anton Lamboy....-great and long nite!! On the second day we started of to see the rest of the show and went after to Aqua-Treff a wholesaler for Malawis and Tanganyikans. Our next stop was Zoo-Zajak, the WORLDS largest pet shop(8500m2). You could easily spend a day in it - and we did. The third day brought us to Holland. We visited another wholesaler - Verduijn cichlids(Ad Konings relation) some stunning place. After been at the show on my own for the last couple of years I really enjoyed the company of our I.M.A.S members (hopefully with more next time :) )
DANKE und bis bald, Tim
P.s. For all the insiders: I know I left a good few other places out but didnt want to go to hard for the ones who didnt made it ;). How do you feel now Daryn?;)

I don't have much of an interest in discus, but I don't think that would put me off going,I'd imagine there would be a lot of other stuff there, and the drygoods would be well represented, only price I've heard was 30euro for a 10kg Tetramin, thats enough to encourage me!
And I'm sure the evenings would be well spent....

Lucky sods... Don't think I would ever get permission from the wife for a trip like that.

I'd have to say it was a business trip ;)
