Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Base jumping elephant snails. I like it.
It is like an under water zoo. Elephants and zebras.
It always amazes me the strength of snails. You can see them lifting the wood.
For elephant snails to breed do you need male and female, just 2 individuals or will one do the job on it's own?

Excellent stuff,again!!
Their strength and speed is amazing,I often see them at the opposite end of the tank, only minutes after seeing them down the other end, they really get around.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

You need a male and a female, they have 2-4 young at a time, not quite an egg that is laid, more like little baby snails wrapped in a soft skin that dissolves in minutes, so they are more or less live bearing - but not exactly, if that makes sense. They are not very prolific and I don't think you would ever be over run with them.

Yes they are incredably strong and shifting stones was an issue, I no longer have stongs stacked to make caves for the Zebras in cave they caused a collapse! Couldn't have snails murdering my Zebras!

Hi Dimitri

Could you keep me a few Pagoda, I would like to breed them and the three I have are showing no signs of doing anything, I will try to get out on the weekend.

Cheers

I think that this tylomelania species are the inspiration for creating Jar Jar(Starwars) :))

I thought they where hermafroditic couse I got only two in one tank and another two in other tank and they bouth bred. Maybe only lucky :).

Great video as usual.

Dimitri, either solution would be great.

Ioan, after I posted that reply on breeding I thought I really should check that because that is what I read when I first researched them when they were only coming on the market about 9 - 12 months ago, it is quote possible that the information was not accurate.

However the part about the snails in the sack is definitely true as I have witnessed that. I will do another trawl on their breeding behaviour and report back.
