Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Nicked this from a different forum that I frequent, just thought I'd post it here because of the irish angle. Lovely aquarium is it overstocked though? not sure about that, I will leave the marine experts to comment on that one. Bit to close to the pool table for me though, one stray ball:blink:

Keep it on topic please so no comments about him being a £$%^&* because he wont play for Ireland, you can discuss the girlfriends car if you want though:laugh::P bling or wha!!

lifted from the article...

"The tank is made of commercial acrylic instead of glass, tough enough to withstand being accidentally hit by a ball from the personalised pool table next to it"

he could throw a cannonball at it!
the woodwork on it is awful, doesnt suit the room decor,
but having said that, nothing would suit that room
except maybe a pile of vomit!

agreed, the wood is terrible on this,

It was the white furry covering on the Bar and seats in the room that just screams naff, I suppose there are some things money just cant buy, (am I jealous of his tank, Absolutely, would I like to be him?, you gotta be sh1tting me)

I heard 2 reports on the radio last week that this was the "biggest private aquarium" in the UK... There is no way that is the biggest tank in the UK! A flippin water change in David Saxby's tank would nearly be enough to fill Stephen Ireland's tank!

Why can't I imagine Ireland down his LFS of a Saturday morning buying the odd flame angel or getting his water tested?!

I was gobsmacked when I looked at that video. What a phenominal tank & fish i was drooling. Unfortunately its hard not to be negative not because of the person that owns it but because its purely there as a wow factor to enhance somebodys ego. I think it cheapens the hobby we all love as a result:angry:

Lads, none of us know whether the guy is into fishkeeping as a hobby or not. Yes the wow factor is there but if we all had his money wouldn't you want a big tank too! I mean in fairness a 200 litre tank in a mansion isnt going to exactly fit into the overall scheme,so size up of course!. Do I think its worth 100k......not a prayer but in terms of what the guy is doing, well none of us are to know if he wants to have it as a wow factor or if he genuinely is a fish fan :)
Makes a change from the usual premiership player carry on of cheating on wives and falling out of nightclubs. Do I like the guy........nope....even if he is from Cork. Stephen England more like!!

If he was genuinely a fish fan I think the tank wouldn't have been in the rags and on all the radio stations last week. All of the videos were made by the maintenance companies. If he was into fish maybe he would instead have put the pictures into PFK or something of the like and he may not have a fully automated system.
Those are just my opinions and I have to say that I am not knocking the guy for having it! If he has the money and he likes it well why not go for it. After all, he is supporting whatever maintenance company he uses during these tough times!
If I had loads of money I'd probably have some ostentatious things like a grand piano... doesn't mean I can play the flippin' thing!

He has a slime coat like a fish, although he does kind of look like a toroise, albeit a young tortoise, wait till that neck "turkeys up" in a few years :) Not knocking the chaps tank or wondering if he's really into it, just him, just him. :)
