Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi,

Caught this today thought I'd share, never seen this side of them before in the tank, even the Panaque stayed out of it. Got three, do I have a female I wonder.

Watch the loser crawl off in shame:)

Its one o those Oootube free tracks, havve a mild headache from goin through the vast amount of free cr@p to find something even remotely decent, so hit I'm feeling lucky:)

It's more two fight and one sits and looks. They went pretty dark in colour.

Logic suggests that the two protagonists are males and the onlooker is a female...but since when did our Fish follow any sort of logic???

Good video, thanks for sharing - nice Fish, too.

Plecs can be quite fond of fighting. The looser looked like a male, cant make out the other two.
Cool vid by the way.

Great vid, really enjoyed this one.
Hard to capture fights for dominance between plecs in a tank..

Just caught the bigger one doin his territorial thing, smaller one's gott a go for his own good. A little battle damage to be healed after this one. Is there any way I can sort this without shifting one?

You could try to rearrange the decor in the tank, especially on the bottom and create new territorial bounaries in the system. This does not always work though, and Ive found that if two fish intend on fighting, there is really nothing you can do to stop them without dividing the tank or moving one on. Best of luck either way man.

That just might be the answer, I have the bottom a bit bare as most things are raised to help the filtration. Thats most likely it, ye live and ye learn eh.

Cheers matey

No worries, give it a go at least. You may yet be able to keep the three of them after things settle. Just keep a close eye on them over the coming days and if aggression continues and they are ripping bits off each other, its time to either divide it or let one go. Personally I dont like the idea of dividing tanks, especially big ones that you buy so you can have space in the first place. Anyhow, hope it works out for ya, get your aquascaping hat on...

I have noticed now gthat they fight in the same area every rime, the arena in the centre of the tank, this is probably the cause when I drop a few delicious algae wafers in that area.

Will give it a go.

Cheers,
