Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Nice tank, how big is it exactly, also it looks like the filter is abit strong for them?(Please dont take it as put down, its certainly not,Im just curious as Ive often considered betta's).
The plants look good, put a nice contrast into the tank. How long is it up and running.

think it's 8 litres or 8.2, something like that
you can turn the strength of the filter up and down, probably is a little high, nice 1, i'll turn it down a bit :)
i love the look of the plants in these tanks, John in Seahorse has a very nice display set up
doesn't take much to have it well planted because it's so small and obviously very little maintenance involved...
got another plant for it today, hemianthus micranthemoides, haven't put it in yet, thinking of removing the anubias and replacing it with the hemianthus, see how it looks anyway :)
the betta's look great against the black backround and also i love the look of the golden sucking loach (Gyrinocheilus aymonieri) against the black...
she's up and running about 5 or 6 months

now would that not be over stocked?, i always believed a betta would need around 5 gallons?

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic

A single Betta can live in a small tank no hassle,in the wild they live in puddles. However Id still think its over stocked to be honest. How many fish are in their?
Its a nano tank.

Looks great Des! That would be the perfect betta setup. Personally id just keep a single betta in there. Chinese algae eaters can get seriously aggressive as they mature. I had a 5.5" one.... never getting one again.

it is overstocked, it's going to be just for the 2 betta's
the other fish will be moved into a 240 litre, i have to swap a fish or two around still
should be sorted today...

yeah but is that not mythical (in a fish keepers world), that it is down to dry seasons, they have no choice but to live in puddles and can adapt, that they actually live in vast paddy fields and slow moving rivers etc, i wouldn't keep one in less than 5g but then if your wp's are bang on i suppose there is not an issue as they cant scream for more room, man i seen these things in a pet store the best way to descibe it would be it was like a big egg cup that you could see trough, you wouldn't drink your coffee out of this dam thing but we won't go into that now

i wrote his last night but forgot to post for some reason, morning gents and gentlasses

Im not saying a 2 or 3 litre tank Dar, I mean the betta cube would work for a single Betta I feel. But I wouldnt go any smaller than that, and personally Id probably prefer twice that size but thats just me.
Sorry Des for all the queries!! Glad to hear the other fish are being moved around. The tank looks lovely, the plants make it in my opinion. Nano tanks are great as they can be a great addition to a room and not dominate it like many tanks.
