Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Had to show off our fabulous new fish!

An amazingly lucky find today for us was this absolutely gorgeous Ryukin, a big red female about 6" or so from nose to tail tip, easily the best Ryukin specimen we've ever seen in Ireland and exactly what we have been looking for. We never imagined we'd find one this good. Ever. She is deeper in the body, higher in hump-back and much much redder than this photo shows. Here she is - we are accepting suggestions for names for her! B) Hope you like!

PM me if you'd like to know where she came from. There are others like her still there - although maybe not quite as typy, still lovely fish and one white male with red markings came damn close to this quality.

It is as its supposed to be and a very nice specimen too. Thats the standard of fish i'd like to see on the show bench at the next show.
I would also agree that it is difficult to get good quality fancy goldfish in this country these days.

How do I enter her then so? I'd love to show her. There's not much wrong with her at all.

Thats a great looking fish is it deffo a female i can never sex them but a great name would be humphrey bogart :)

not sure when the next show is on but for sure it will be posted on here so keep an eye out for details its fairly straight forward just dont do what i done the last time and forget that the fish has to be their the night before, doh

Yes it is definitely 100% a female. That would have been a great name though :D

Do you have to be a club member to enter a fish in a show?

I like to see stunning goldfish.......you don't get them often.

In reply to the question on seeing one on a show-bench.....watch out for the notices on fish-shows on here.
The ITFS hold an open show (but maybe not this year).

Probably won't be showing her after all. We are getting back into dog breeding and showing so that will take preference to the fish, which were only ever there to tide us over until we could have dogs again.

No recent shots as the tank has been stripped out to be redecorated. Nothing to see right now. We named her Poppy in the end!
