Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Trying something different on a very small scale,
Lights still to be decided, just using the t8 that's in the hood for now,
2x1x1,
6kg live rock,
2kg live sand,
50w heater internal filter with floss and some micromec in a bag, which I may remove?? Not sure yet as the xenia loves nitrates il see how fast it grows with and without,
Ato will also be added,
1 turbo snail, 2 blue legged crabs,
Going to let the pulsing xenia grow everywhere glass included back and sides which I will encourage as it grows all over the rock first, also for now threw in some shrooms on a rock just to get it out of the main tank might even let these grow around the bottom but undecided as yet
Fish, just to be different I'm keeping black mollies cause I find it amazing that a fresh water fish can be survive in saltwater,
Here's a pic of it running week one

Thanks lads the tank was sitting in the attic and I new if i didn't do something with it bow it would still be in the attic next year
So it's a simple little idea but I reckon next year it will look like a trippy little tank pulsing away
Il probably put some interesting inverts ect in it but il wait and see if the tank works first before I spend on livestock
Il post pics as it grows but can't promise anything soon as it's going to take time

Looked at it a while ago for one of my own tanks then decided to go with a bigger tank so need a bigger light system

Only reason I didnt get it!!!!

Very tidy little light unit

Was only looking at that today in my local shop didn't think it was great for the price of it
The power glow t8 bulb seems to be better at 10000k and it's only 20€ ha
Not looking to spend much on this yet want to see how it works out first
But thanks for the idea much appreciated

It seems to have taken off well!
Did you stick with t8s in the end?
Still using micro mec or just the floss?
How did the mollys fair long term?

Looks very well

Yeh just left it with the t8 seems to be grand
Took out the micromec as it brought the nitrates to low for the xenia and they were not pulsing so took it out and their now pulsing
I took the fish out cause they were dirty feckers and hadn't got the time to be maintaining it as the big tank was wrecking me head for a while
Thinking of getting a mandarin cause it's full of life now and he'd look cool in their

If you have taken out the micro mec
Is this just filtered by the live rock and floss?

Do you still have the tank Jeff or have you made it into a native tank ?
I was thinking of getting some Xenia for my tank but not so sure if it will take over my tank like that lol. I could always kee it under control by fragging and selling on.

It's still the same tank bud only I've turned down the temp a bit and stuck a few native marine stuff in their, the xenia will spread like crazy and try to dominate the tank (it will dominate the tank) if left unchecked, but this takes time, but if it's looked after its a really cool coral

I can sort you out with some frags in you want to try some
