Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I'M A CLOWNFISH GRANDFATHER !!!!!!!

Hi Folks,

Well its a year to the day that the TULLAMORE REEF was setup and imagine my shock this evening when I noticed that the clownfish family were spending alot of time away from the Rose Bubbletip Anemone and all three were spending alot of time at the back of my Elegance Coral, Catalaphyllia jardinei.

Upon investigation, I moved the coral slightly to the left to get a better look and look what I found!

A Closer Look

Look Again

Yes Folks, Baby Clownfish. Judging by the presence of Dark eyes, they are about 24-48hours from hatching

The Proud Parents

Male Fanning the Nest

Male Inspecting a dodgy baby

Female takes her turn

A Short video follows showing Brood Care with the 3rd Sexually immature male also lending a hand. Watch near the end, when the Female drives off BERTIE, the Yellow Tang, When he gets too close for comfort!
File Attachment:

Unfortunately, these babies are doomed as I have no way of setting up Microaglae cultures and Rotifer cultures to feed them within 48 hours from now.

I'm lead to believe however that once they start breeding, I can expect egg clutches every 2-3 weeks. So my mission for the next few weeks is to setup microalgae cultures, Rotifer cultures, Brineshrimp cultures, and a fry rearing tank!!!!!!

Any advice from anyone who has been down this road or help as to where I can get live microalgae, rotifers would be greatly appreciated.

A Proud Grandfather

Drew,

Thats them!

For those of you who don't know the story, I purchased the Bubbletip Anemone from Drew Last Jan in AV. When ever he tried to prize the anemone from its perch on some liverock he was attacked by this pair defending their home. Even when he removed it from the holding tank, they were still hidden inside it!. It was breaking my heart so we cut a deal, and everyone was happy. Which brings us up to today's fairytale ending. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Hi Seany,

This is brilliant and the pics are fabulous. I had never seen that before either. Thank you for sharing them with us !
The story on how you 'had' to purchase these clown fish is also brilliant

Well done and best of luck with the next batches ! ;)

Seany

Congratulations on having a wonderful mature tank where your fish are comfortable to procreate. Fantastic photos and a joy to read and watch this thread.

Well, They all hatched last night. By shining a torch along the length of the tank, I could see hundreds of silver shiny eyes looking back at me. Alas, they are no more. Nature has dispatched them to the great fishy home in the sky :( :( :(

Dad doesn't know what to do with himself but Mum doesn't seem a bit put out. However she probably has her mind on the next batch of eggs she will be due to lay in a few weeks time!

Kind regards

Seany

You could try midland reefs for the microalgae, Rotifer starter cultures.

Fantastic, you must be delighted that they have started spawnign, a shame that they are all lost, but I am sure that they will go again for you. Great photos too.

Hi Seany Seahorse Aquariums in Ballymount have always live food Phyto, Rotifers and Brine Nauplii they will give you a bottle which you can use no need to set up cultures if you are looking for more info and would like to start cultures a good read is by Frank Hoff from Florida Aqua Farms one of the Pioneers in Aquaculture
