Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

If you're talking about copperband butterfly some are reef safe and some aren't but it is a difficult fish to feed at times but definitely one of my favourites.

i believe peppermint shrimp won't eat it if it's too big. So i think the juice is the only option which i think is just lemon juice or some sort citric acid. i crushed one in my filter with the sponge and it died quite easily.

Am talking about most butterflys
But the copperband is the one i was looking at and most are saying are not reef safe some say there one or two that are but finding one is a pain
there is two glass anemones in my tank tuck in on rock and can not get them also dont want to brake them up or they will go everywhere
Have you used joes juice brfore?

Re: How do you get rid of glass anemones?
i use the powder calcium by kent and mix a small strong dose and suck it up in a syerenge and push into the aiptasias mouth and shoot it in. The aiptasia should die within a half an hour. if not you can go buy joes juice heard it works great.
I think Seahorse sell Aptaisia X.

I think you can use a pippete rather than a syringe. you could also try the aiptasia eating Filefish
Given the nature of Aptasia to regenerate from bits that remain, would there be a chance of leftover, uneaten bits regenerating again?

I don't believe its as bad as people say a bit of scare mongering, the peppermint should take care of what you can't see it just needs to be controlled like bubble algae and the rest.
They are not catastrophic, just not seen as ideal.
When i crushed mine with my sponge i didn't see anymore but i do have peppermint shrimp in the tank so i take he's doing his job.
Those two Aiptasia you can see but how many do you really have do they really survive if not completely destroyed or is it the ones you can't see becoming more visible.

Hope the little buggers are gone
Sean
Spraying kalk i've heard of injecting it into it but not spraying it hope that nothing else injests the kalk otherwise it might be a worse situation to begin with.
Lets hope it works.

Glad we cleared that up rather than some new person wanting a quick fix and doing that
Can't imagine the potential disaster.
Did the kalk work?
