Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Can I hold on adding fish after cycling a new tank

so here is the question, I just got my new tank, its a 80 liters optiwhite custom aquarium that I have fitted inside my livingroom's wooden shelf.

Now my plan is to build a sump within a month (I am working on the design so I will probably be asking questions soon) but for the moment all I have is an jbl eprofi 701 and a tunze power head, over 12 kg of live rock and live sand. I filled it up with water from the LFS and the tank will probably cycle soon, however, I am going on holidays for 12 days in July and I already have to worry about my freshwater tanks so as, I dont want to worry also about my new marine tank I was thinking of holding on before introducing ANY living thing in that tank.

Question is, how long can I do this for? I know in FW aquariums if you dont introduce fish/ammonia within a certain amount of time you run the risk of starving the bacterial colony so I am assuming it will be the same for marine tanks so what do you recon is the best way to keep them happy? I am running 2 x 24 w T5HO with one KZ 10k and another KZ fuji purple (which I will probably will replace for an actinic) but I am getting new lights soon so I will figure that out then!

So what do you think? Should I do nothing then, will it be ok until mid July?

Thanks!

Couple of pictures of the aquarium. I think this is going to be the final layout... I still have to glue it together with epoxy (glue didnt quite work out for me) and I need to buy a rock to cover the bottom of the power head and the back right side of the aquarium but apart from that its almost there.

Suggestions are always welcome

I have left plenty of caves and wholes for the fish to hide... here is one of them

I have placed the rocks in such way that if I have to remove the power head I can do it easily (although I will be placing another rock on top of it)
