Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

crushed shells (washed) or limestone would do instead of crushed coral.
The basic idea is that the crushed coral would be a good way to get some calcium into the water.
If the water is quite hard then that should already have a good balance of electrolytes such as calcium.
I never asked what conc of epsom salts you were adding......ideally this should be used in a 30 minute bath (at a conc of 1/2 teaspoon per gallon in the 30 minute dip), but do not go over 1/8th teaspoon per 5 gallons in the normal water unless you are confident that that will not upset a good balance of calcium. So, if you're not certain, then play safe.
Feeding, it might be an idea to soak dried food in water for a few minutes before feeding.
I've not seen dropsy in a guppy for...how many years....not sure if I have as I guess that most die before getting to the pine-comb effect that Gavin mentioned earlier.
Seen lots of goldfish and loads of siamese fighters with it though. I have my theories on that.

Has she a bent back?
Stringy stuff is not good. As a note, Guppies are one of the fish that are more prone to camalanus worm......there is a slight red protrusion that quickly disappears when you go close to have a look. Not saying that that is the case, but worth noting.

Will continue with the salt baths for another few days, and her last dose of meds on day 7. She is still not that interested in food though.

Hi the fish in this photo link does not have dropsy, thats viral or a tumour growth.
hi, sorry my good man but without going back over the thread, i don't think it was clarified that it was actually dropsy at the time, and if i could recall the symptoms did not entirely fit the bill with dropsy, i just put that out to see if it was that.
cheers, Darren
Check out the angling section, it is fantastic
