Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi Guys

I currently have a Trigon 190 converted and have successfully maintained corals and fish for the last couple of years with it.

Now looking to upgrade to a reef ready system and narrowed it down to the following:

Red Sea Max 130
Red Sea Max 250
Clearseal
and recently spotted the aquareef 195

has anyone had any good/bad experiences with these tanks and possibly know of any going second hand for decent price.

also open to other suggestions

thanks

My vote would be for the Clearseal. Good range of standard sizes, or have it custom sized at little or no extra cost too!
You can add or use existing equipment and lighting of your choice, as only the return pump, sump and pipework is included.
I am not a huge fan of the plug and play type of aquarium when it comes to marines.

Red sea Max 250 is a bloody expensive tank, was going to buy 1 a few years ago, but price was chronic
Clear seal tank all the way in my opinion
Carlow chris has a red sea max130 ask him his opinion

HI Jeff

sorry for the late reply - havent been on in a while. No joy with the larger upgrade. Change in circumstances dictates a smaller set up than the ones list above, and might have to go Nano now instead. More room needed for new family member and dont want to give up the hobby fully!!! have to look for a smaller 40 - 90 litre tank now instead.

Keep the tank and use it as a play pen with soft toys only and then when the little sprog is finished with it you can say sure we may as well put a few Fish in their fir junior to look at ha!

hi ya probly a bit late seeing your thread now but...

the redsea max 130 is a good little tank the only thing that lets it down is the skimmer but if you read other forums that seems very standard and I can only assume that the same would go for the skimmer in the 250.everyone seems to upgrade these to the tunze .

the other thing that probly lets down these tanks is with the filters in the overflow its very hard to stop the stop the gunk coming back into the tank when performing maintenance...and the fact that there severally over priced.I think boyu do a similar 90 litter tank for a fraction of the price.

so id have to say if ya want to buy one you'd probly be better off buying one second hand.there always seems to be one or two for sale.im upgrading my tanks and i'll have one or two for sale soon too....theres always good deals out there.......

but with all there down falls I like the look the of redsea 130 and I think its a brilliant little tank.
