have any of You seen this documentary about the annual killing of dolphins in Taiji, Japan
if not, You should check it out
truly shocking stuff

Really shocking. To see hundreds of dolphins slaughtered every morning. They presume 23.000 dolphins are killed every year by the Japanese only in that lagune. The sea water goes deep red. And it's nearly impossible to belive that it happends today and nothing can stop it. Really worth watching

It has taken quite a qhile to get this out, saw some of that red sea water coming out of the cove a few years ago.
The Japs say it is no different from killing cows, I aint seen em drag cows on to a trailer and slash em up like that, it is terrible but begs some questions to be answered.


I guess whats annoying is the selective nature, Dolphins get way more attention, Whales too when the exploitation of many animals occurs and noone blinks. The treatment of all the animals WE eat is terrible. What do the people living off these Dolphins and Whales do for a living, or to eat if they are not to hunt? Or is it the commercialisation of this slaughter that is sickening.

The Cove will make evil out of normal joe soap fishermen when this is their livelyhood and nothing evil about it, take a trip to the nearest slaughterhouse and you will feel just as disgusted maybe even more so.

What really pisses me off about it all is the amount of food that gets thrown out by Us and supermarkets, restaurants ect, so we're doing all this killing of animals only to throw their meat into the bin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In many ways we are probably far worse than the fishermen from the cove. I do know that if some show came to our town to ruin our local trade we would certainly not be welcoming them thats for sure.

Humans are very selective in their disgust.

But the same happens there too. Saw this a while back and if I recall correctly the meat is disgusting and the schools that provided it are now turning it away for a variety of reasons. Yet the Dolphins are still being culled by the thousands and the meat wasted...

i don't think i could watch this film as much as i would like to it'd just upset me to be honest

i watched a documentary on the fur trade once and i'll never forget some of the things i saw on that

as up setting as these things are.ya should take heart knowing that people out there are fighting against the people who treat the animals in the manner thay do.well thats how i would like at it following people fighting for anaimal rights to the extremes that they are.some hi tech gear they seem to be useing in the trailer

I certainly do not agree with what they are doing, dont get me wrong but to say "yeah in Asia they treat animals terribly" and not in the US EU ect thats just not true.

Yes it is heartening to see attempts to stop it and yes Jay they waste food, thats my point with all the slaughter, a lot of it ends in the bin, Dolphin Cattle ect, all of it. I aint saying "Oh they dont waste it" I am saying that other animals don't seem to get the same interest in their welfare, flavour of the month culture, TV sucks bigtime.

They have obviously been doing this for generations, its work but the cove makes em out to be evil, this is just not true.


I have yet to see an alternative option offered to these fishermen and local economies, which is the crux of the problem, its all they know.

I have seen the same argument for destroying animals and habitats for farming in S America for local enconomy, so it is ok when it is vast areas of jungle and all the animals within including lakes full of fish to be drained, but it is not ok for Japanese fishermen, lets face it, even if done less bloody they would be still up in arms cos they are killing Dolphins at all.

This is can happen to our steaks before they are steaks but no movie just chucked into a bin, I mean whats the f'n point, it makes me mad as hell, I aint a veggie I eat meat but it's takin the mick and in no way sustainable they way we are going.

i never said they didn't here or the US i said in asia they do and they are by far miles behind the rest of the world in terms of animal welfare and thats a fact

Wait, it wasnt that it was disgusting. It just dawned on me, didnt they find large amounts of mercury or some other metal in the meat? Pretty sure thats why its no longer given to the kids but the slaughter goes on for the sake of tradition. Think thats how it went anyway. The whole SA farms thing is an entirely different matter. Japan, is a highly developed country, not a backwater with millions living below the poverty line...

The human condition makes me laugh, Killed, forget the romanticising of the word, it's killed, destroyed, bludgeoned, anhialated, no softening of the word can make it any more acceptable.

Let me state, without any doubt , I detest the cruel attitude some countries have toward helpless, defenseless Animals.

There are funny attitudes toward how we get our Food, When animals are cute or affect us on an emotional level we get upset at them being killed, if you look at nations that enjoy Dog as a mainstay of their diet we get angry because we know they lie by us, lick us, welcome us and in essence, love us, therefore it's disgusting to think of eating one, I couldn't. If a Cow behaved in the same way, cuddled up to us, wagged it's Tail and bounced up and down on our return we would find eating them difficult too.

It's their interaction with us that makes us decide how we feel about them, we put human attributes on them and call them pets whereas, if they are ugly, are in their millions or do not fit the bill as a potential pet the affection is somewhat lessened.

Most of us squirm at the sight of Blood and the sight of Blood coloured Water is not something you can come to terms with, I can't.

I'm not sure how this will ever resolve it'self, You have a western Civilization that consumes Antibiotic riddled Chickens and Cattle in huge numbers, Chickens are Killed by slitting throats after initial stunning by shocking their feet that are immersed in electricity laden water. Cattle are Killed via a bolt to the Head and drained of Blood, if any of these practises were conducted in public, in clear view of us, would that cause the same degree of consternation among us? Would it be more acceptable if Dolphin, Whale or any other satient Animal was Killed for whatever reason out of sight, processed and packaged?.

Fish are caught in unbelievable numbers , squashed within massive nets and take minutes to die before processing yet we discuss how to Euthanize a sickly Ram etc in the most humane way, kind of Hypocritical I think.

I'm only commenting, not judging because I don't have the Answer.

If any of the above appears disjointed, my apologies, I'm just off a Plane from Canada and I'm knackered.

exactly

there's no point in turning this into a big arguement about morals and what animals get the worst treatment etc. etc.
there's all sorts of cruel and horrible things that go on in this world
this documents one of them and it is terrible no matter how you break it down
you should view it (non-comparatively) to get the full picture........

I think it's just good discussion, opinions and observations, no one has the answers but debate is always good.
