Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

New tank was created by paulm (paulm)
Iv have just bought a new tank from reefer and at present planning the logistics of getting it from there to here (if you get me) The tank and the dry goods are kinda sorted so to speak! The problem is along with the tank I got the corals and fish, live rock and live sand, calaurpra myrical mud(spellings   ) Anyway my problem is this What do I do with all the live stuff while Im setting up the tank.

This is what Iv got so far.

I have a 1000 ltr glassfibre tank which I can fill and put the live rock in

Kieronr has kindly offered to help with corals (assuming theres room in the tank)

I have a small 180ltr tank I can set up for some of the fish
but not all of them.

Im thinking maybe a lot of drums and save as much water as possible and get it straight into the tank after i position it?

A 1000 or so ltr tank thats a lot of drums

Some input here would help out

THANKS PEOPLE

Paul

Green Wheely bins are great for transporting water.Borrow a few (They should be spotless clean but you can clean them before hand just to be sure).I have used one before and it worked great. The temperature didnt even drop by 2C as they have a tight lid.

You can use few powerheads and some long hosing to fill them from the house (where the tank is Im assuming) to the Wheely bins in the truck or outside.Im not sure but Id say they hold around 300+ liters.

I bought a huge 125 litre fertilizer mix container (Never user for fertilizer tho.) in B&Q for 30EUR or something like that... have a watertight lid and a little tab on the bottom... i moved all the water in my tank with that :)

you can borrow this if you want... the wheely bin idea sounds good too!

Pablo

Hi Paul.
That tank is some size. I recon it will take 8 men to lift.
I am on holidays/in Hospital/working/Sick/praying(Ramadam)/
getting married/going to a funeral on the day you need a hand.
I would have loved to help you move the 1 ton tank but sorry I am busy.
