Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

You could place a fish trap in your tank now with some food inside,
predator must be getting hungry now if not any food left, if it can kill fish, it will go for the food in the trap, a trap is not too expensive, or maybe yur LFS could lend you one,
they do work.

just quick idea , you could also just take out live rock in area you think it is, and leave on a sheet to partly dry off to see if it will come out, as it would be a lot bigger now, dont know if yur live rock is yur filter also, so you could spray it with saltwater to keep it wet, on the outside.
hope this helps.

I say this with some authority, a quick dip in fresh water will have all hidden creatures bolting for the Door, it doesn't need to be long, a quick in and out will have the required effect, A short while ago I was given live rock that some half wit decided to wash out under a COLD Tap, it was a short event and I found all sorts of nasties, Bristleworms etc on the bottom of the Bucket. Jay aka Viperbot can attest to this.

Very true. If you are worried just sterillize the rock under freashwater. Better still, use hot freshwater. If you have enough live rock in your system then sterillizing one piece wont do any harm given your system is a year old. If you are worried about having more than one of these critters in the tank then you could lower the specific gravity to 1.009 for a week or so. Note that this will kill all inverts within your tank so if you have corals, nems, or cleaner crews then you will have to get them a temp home before you do this. I recently just used this approach to deal with a bad outbreak of ich in my own system and after a few days my aquarium looked like 400 liters of worm soup.

Sounds like a eunicid or bobbit worm if you look them up they are very hard to catch, I had the same problem and you have to find the lair and make sure you get every bit of him out as they can break off their end segment and just grow again! plus they can live in your tank for years without being spotted, fresh water wont flush him out I tried that, you can try soda water but I just dumped the whole rock as I just didnt want to take the risk of any bit of him being left behind... they can reach lengths of 20ft or more!!!!
good luck
Siobhan
