Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Is the water coming out at the main seal at the top of the media canister or is it coming out where the hoses connect?
First thing to check is that the O-ring seals are ok and not dry, straight from the box, they should have a thin coating of silicone grease which will make them feel like they are covered in oil.
If the seals are dry, try lightly coating with petroleum gel aka Vaseline.

Also, you definitely want to ensure there is no grit of any kind on the seals as this will stop them sealing correctly. The actual contact areas on the seals is surprisingly small and any grit in the seal will cause problems.

It's actually coming out where the power cable runs out. Just seems to be taking in to much water, the flow from it is shocking. You can't adjust the intake separately from to outlet its all combined.

Sounds like a faulty filter head to be honest.
The cable should be sealed within a rubber grommet which should not leak. If you can see the rubber seal around the cable where it enters the head unit, then try gently pushing it in with the tip of a flat head screw driver, may help. I think your best option is to return and get a replacement filter :(

If there is water coming out, chances are you have got air going in too, this would account for the noise.

Try running it without any media, maybe something is slowing down the output flow.

Have you checked to see if the outlet is free for any debris from the packaging ie. aero board ,bubble wrap, card board, you never know maybe something is blocking the outlet and the water has no where to go but back the way it came.

Sorted the leak :)

Took the filter apart and noticed that there was a rubber seal missing. The seal goes on to the filter head and forms the seal were they join.

Still making a lot of noise tho

My fluval was very noisy. Tilt it to nearly 45` then shake it. I done this and it expeled any air left in it. Worked for me worth a try.
