Juwel Bulb Colour Mixing
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

The Juwel Lighting comes in 5 different one's
* Day
* Colour
* Nature
* Marine
* Blue
Ive used the Day and Blue before which is good.
And im now using the Nature and Blue which is good, BUT im not getting the true reds in some fish
So im wondering if anyone has used the Colour and Blue before, The Colour is to boost the reds and blues but will it work with the Blue bulb? and the other thing is would it be to dark? with them too
I know the Day and Colour will bring out the colours i want but i really like the effect the Blue bulb has on the water
So what yeh think lads will the Colour and Blue work together ????? or have you done this or do you have this
Cheers,
Jeff.

I don't have the spectrum of those lights at hand (but will see if there are spectra available).
Colour in fish is not a simple thing.
Depending on the fish, the colours could be 'colours' (eg most reds and yellows) or they could be 'structural' and not there at all (eg iridescent blues), then you get fluorescence, and masking.
Some of those colours will be under nerve control.
The lighting applied may affect the mood of the fish (and thus affect the nerve controlled colours); or it may cause changes in what colours are reflected (with true colours) or refracted (with structural colours); plus more effects.
If the blue light has a strong blue wavelenghth and the intensity is greater than the colour tube, then you could be masking certain fish colours but stimulating others.
In some respects it a bit like the yellow glasses for night-time driving....they filter out everything bar yellow and, as we see yellow much better than any other colour. then we perceive the yellow driving glasses to 'brighten things' (but it is only a trick of light and the human brain and eye)
That, though, did not much to answer your question apart from saying....try it and see.
