Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Iv ran fresh water through it for a few hours and left it running the night with a bucket
I don't really want to get rid of the sponges or ceramics because the filter is brand new
So do you think I'll be ok with a proper clean?

i had messy fish in that tank so was cleaning the prefilters regular enough but apart from that the rest of the sponges were cleaned every 2 months or so.
ye have a superb little filter for the price of them and ye shouldn't be able to hear it running either

Life is as dear to the mute creature as it is to a man. Just as one wants happiness and fears pain, just as one wants to live and not to die, so do other creatures.

Have the E900 for a few years now es well as the larger E1501 and can only sing their praises, never a problem and more than capable of doing the job, consumption is only 11w compared to the older 900's 15w
If you buy this locally you will be charged you up to 120 euro for it
ye can send the info by pm lad to anyone interested but it is quite a bargain considering local prices

its a great filter mark, been using it maybe 2 years now on a 240L and never had a problem.

Davey or someone. quick question. I have a 901 running on my tank. when i clean it, i just rinse the top layer sponges in some spare tank water. However, when I remove the other baskets with the bio balls and ceramic cone things such that there are no baskets left in the canister, the water looks filthy with a layer of sludge at the bottom of the canister itself. I have never cleaned this out or dumped it as scared it contains a lot of my beneficial bacteria but gunk is now beginning to spray out into the tank, especially after turning it back on after being off. question is whether or not i should be dumping all this gunk and wiping clean the inside of the cannister itself and then refilling it with all the baskets of bioballs, topped-off with the basket of blue sponges??.
Advice greatly appreciated! Brian
