Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

hello. I have a juwel vision 180l, I`m thinkin about buying second external filter, I already have one is a 2034 eheim ecco pro, but it will not clean well aquarium. food and fish waste remain in the aquarium. I thought about one of the filters with built-in UV-C lamp (our original internal filter in the aquarium has been removed). What filters would you recommended to me? thx

If crap is still remaining in the tank then I would recommend changing the inlet and outlet positions of the existing external filter as another filter may simply do the same.

Personally, if you an external filter then I would recommend a smaller internal filter to go with it. The smaller internal can be quite cheap to buy, it will help to churn around the crap inside the tank, plus be a back-up in case the external fails.

If going for another external, then you will get a multitude of replies suggesting Eheim, JBL, Fluval, maybe Sera.
All have pros and cons.........there is no filter that is perfect for the tank and for the pocket (although I am finding JBL externals to come close).

Hello! Thanks for the tip, I wanted to get rid of the internal filter that is originally installed in my juvel 180l, but I see that it is better to leave him, he cleans the aquarium well but it does not look interesting

I had an ecco pro 300 - found it awful - didn't keep the tank well, blocked & slowed down to easily.

Replaced with a JBL 1501 - massive difference in the tank (200l - not much bigger than yours).

Cant recommend the JBL highly enough - ran it up against some of the larger Eheim professionel 3e as well - found the JBL better in every way.

I tried to still play with my eheim, but it gives no effect in my aquarium. I think I will return to filter internal and external'll leave in the back up.

jim you only have external filter in your aquarium or the internal is well?

I was having a similar issue on my 350 Trigon due to the size and shape of it, also with having a large amount of bog wood there were plenty of "dead spots" in the tank where I was getting build ups!!!

I installed 2 power heads that come on for about 10 - 15 mins at a time and blow the waste around to where the filter can actually extract it!!!!!

Im happy enough with the result!

Hi Gregor - I only have an external on this one and it works brilliantly.

I do have other tanks with the internal left in, but supplemented with a small extrnal (e.g. Tetratec Ex700) and they work fine too.
