Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Was thinking of getting a moon light LED so I can see my nocturnal tank inhabitants occasionally, do you think bristlenose and/or amano shrimp will venture out in the moon light.

I've been thinking about these (I have bristlenose and also kuhli loaches), but they're on my long-term list, rather than my buy now list!

I think the bristlenose would come out, not sure about shrimp (as in, I don't have any, so no idea!). I think with the LED lights, depending on the model you can vary the lighting so you could play around with it until they are happy with it.

By moonlight I take it you mean the bluish ones. I think any kind of subdued lighting encourages nocturnal creatures. I have a 190Lfiremouth cichlid tank that only has a 9W light over it and I see the two plecs in it all the time. I also have a Cory tank that gets hit by some illumination from a streetlight outside once the lights go out; same deal there, it's all busy busy busy!

Tnx for replies. I am thinking just a few watts of white LEDs, I'm not sure about the blue look. I've seen an Arcadia 12cm unit for €18 it did not show watts though. Something like that submersible with suction cups etc. I'm not trying to replicate moon phases or anything just viewing.

Any recommendations? For a vision 180

I have a 2 foot led submersible strip on my 4 foot tank to act as a moonlight. It encourages my bristlenose to come out when the led is on. It also got my knife fish to come out when I had it.

I've had no problems with these lights the ad and box on ebay stated it was 3watts when I got it so its low wattage.

I've bought the 60cm for myself, 30cm for my father and 2 20cms for a friends marine tank.

This is my setup and I'd recommend them.

I order from uk as China is usually upto month for postage.

Thx Joe, maybe I'll get a blue and a white and see how they look as they are not that expensive. I'm sure I can make use of both in any case
