Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin
Juwel Trigon 190 Light Unit Replacement (LEDs??)

I have been hit with the curse of light unit failure in my Trigon 190 corner tank. I have the tank for nine years so I have been lucky up to now. It is a T8 unit and has been temperamental for about a year now but it seems like it has finally given up the ghost.
I have a planted community tank with all the usuals (platys, guppys tetras etc).
I have been researching my options and these seem to be my choices:
1. Buy a new T5 unit (will cost about €120-€150 on)
2. Change to LEDs. I am not sure what I need here or what it will cost but has anyone done this before?
3. Attempt a repair job. There are lots of suggestions online about this but I am not confident in doing this myself. It really is a last resort.
Anybody with any suggestions?

Was it difficult to install the LEDs?
Is the light output similar to the tubes?
Where is the best place to find them online?
What wattage will I need with the LEDs?
Sorry for all the questions!

You might want to cut out existing tube holders and waterproof the unit with sealant so you can fit longer tube.
I will put some photos when I get a chance.

I'm considering these as a replacement to my trigon 190 light unit that died a couple of months ago too

Would something like this work:
I presume the white one would be what I need for my tank.
Would I need two bars for the size tank I have?
It certainly is a more cost effective method of lighting my tank.
Any opinions on these???

They are the old type LED, as you have planted tank you need to be careful with color temperature.
For plants 6500K is best, blue or green won't do good to plants. You will most likely need 2 of them.
These are the ones I mentioned pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=w...133&globalID=EBAY-IE , it's new LED type.

Total cost of two bars including postage was £33.47.
I'll let you all know how I get on (with pics).
Thanks again for all your help. I would never have found this option myself.
