Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Looking at getting 1 for my rio180.The options are an EX700 which is rated for 100-250ltr tanks,or go bigger and get the EX1200 rated 200-500ltrs.
I'm not worried about the extra cost of the bigger, but only concern,is,would the 1200 create too much current in a tank of that size?
Tank currently is home to corys, sajicas, laetacara 'buckelkopf',a couple of plecs, and a pair of pearl gourami(temp, until breeding tank established),ottos.
Any ideas?
Dave

Don't worry about the current mate, the 1200 i'm reliably iformed will barely fit in the cabinet of a Rio 400.
So unless you plan on stashing it somewhere else.....
The current on the tetratecs is negated if you install the spraybars.
Well, that is to say, it is on mine, I have the EX700 on my rio 240.
It fits in the press but you have to remove the shelf.

Some random comments:
The 405 is great, some people have had bad experiences with seals though.
My 405 was working dandy till I cleanded it out, and now its power seems down, also i broke the frankly pathetic 'self primering' handle clean off.
That said, once up and running, it has my cichlid tank pristine.
I also prefer the 405s hosing to thew Tetratecs.
Can you hear a mouse fart?
No?
then you won't hear a Tetratec running.
Seriously, I have to put my hand on my 700 just to check its still on!

I have a 1200 for my 180 and with a spraybar there is no current issue. It will fit in cabinet, but you need to remove the shelf - just lift out.
Have not used 405 so can't comment. I have a 205 for a few weeks now and it seems fine.

I cleaned my Fluval 305 over the weekend and noticed some water seepage on one side. They definitley do have seal problems. I took the seal out and gave it a good clean and appear to have resolved it.
I think the design of the Fluval 04/05 range is poor with regard to sealing. My FX5 on the other hand is superb and well sealed. Not sure I'll gove for another Fluval 05 in the future.
Regards,
Ken.
