Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I wouldnt go with prepaid power ir any of them because they charge you 7€ a week for the service... we were in arrears with our esb company so they fitted it without charges, what goes into our meter is ours to use apart from what comes off what we owe on our last paper bill.

He was the most unprofessional sales person I ever met !
He had no literature to give me, couldn't tell me the exact standing charge or unit rate (other than that it was the exact same as ESB) and he neglected to tell me until he thought I was interested that there is a weekly insurance payment on the meter that would equate to about €200 a year or more.
He told me that if I was very clever with my usage, I would save money. The way I see it is, I would have to be very very clever, just to cover the insurance payment.
I sent him on his way needless to say

At night at bed time it is easy to see if something left on as I can see units been used and if above expected I can check what and switch off

Im thinking the same route with a pre pay meter, my 2 monthly is about 360€. Im nervous that the power will be cut if I dont have enough to put in the meter on any given day. 4 kids, 2 adults house and car to run on the dole is a struggle. Im saying no to the pre pay..
We have two teenage kids and three under the age of four no one here was conscious of electricity till I got the meter in. When I come home from night shift the big flood light would be left on along with other things. I know where your coming from with money and what if your running low its bit like a phone that uses 5 euro credit a day when it goes low there is 5 euro emergency and they don't turn off on weekends or bank holidays.

And between all the things running in the house it works out between 5 to 7 euro a day I am happy enough with the price.
