Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Newbie

All the vents are still there..bought a couple of units to try to deal with the evaporation thats how I have a idea how much water I'm losing plus the amount I have to replace I've had a few different company's in and they all said it's the fish tank I've replaced most things in the tank that causes heat but just slowed it down the loss of water.. But the mood still keeps coming

I got two paid 500 each one there industrial if I close the sitting room doors I can get up to 5 Ltrs over night during the summer

Drying clothes is another big one for causing humidity....

When running dehumidifiers you need to keep all doors and windows closed in the area your using the dehumidifier in..If you run a dehumidifier in a room with open windows (especially on rainy days) you are just drawing in humidity from outside....

Another way to dehumidify a room is to open out the windows and direct the airflow of a BIG fan out the window (but this only works on dry warmer days)

If its raining keep your windows closed!![/quote
Are dryer is out in are garage and cooking lol not much of that done either

Ireland have in general high humidity levels, so you need to exchange air alot in house to prevent it.
If you insulate house the air circulation get even worse.
Assuming you own the house I suggest to install air ventilation with heat recovery system. This will ensure that insulating house was not waste of money, as only other way to circulate fresh air is to keep windows open, which mean loosing heat from house.

Its not just about the tank which is obviously big contributor.

I have read about study on insulated houses and apartments which raised issue with air circulation. For family house you need around 40l of fresh air per hour to maintain healthy environment. They researched number of houses and detected increased number of health issues due to lack of fresh air.
It make sense if you think about healing by breathing high oxygen air which is used successfully in athletics and other sports.

Ok guys after looking at all the comments and getting in many a company to look at the problem in the house the fish is causing the problem but it's the house to we have a floating floor which is caring all the problems if I had a newer house it wouldn't be a fifth of the problem.. I live on the top of the hill so the wind hits us a little more so the cold gets under the house which is causing a cold bridge and with the heat on in the house that's what's causing the problem so looks like I have to get rid of my tank unless I want to run the dehumidifiers 24/7.. So will be putting everything up for sale.. Or I can get rid of the wife I think the tank cost less to run
