Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi , my co2 system which is fed my an in line system just before my canister filter seems to do funny things that it will quite often just start making noise and then a lot of bubbles come out of the filter return into the tank . What i cant understand is the extingushers was half refilled before xmas , as sh ran out of co2 , and although it runs at 2 bubbles a second for 7 hours a day the cylinder still feels fairly full . Have today just swapped it onto a newly filled cylinder , so will have to wait until it comes on . Just wondering was it a problem with the regulator ?

You feed co2 BEFORE your filter?
Doesn't that just fill your canister with air, and then it will have to have a hissing fit to expel it, to make room for the water.
Wouldn't it be better to feed it after the canister filter?

I knowing nothing about co2 systems when i installed it was advised to do it that way , being told i would get a better absorbsion of co2 into the water that way , but the current issue has only happened in the last few weeks

Do you think i should change it over , after all is only a matter of swapping the pipework over so that the co2 goes in on the return hose instead of the input ?

It should be on the outlet line if it's on the inlet line it fills the cannister with gas and causes impeller noise.

I know nothing about co2, but it does make sense that it will fill your canister with air.
Another point to ponder is, is your outlet pipe above or below the water?
If it's below then fine the co2 rich water will be returned. But if it's above, then will you be venting off the co2 when it hits the water and causes disturbance?
I don't know, maybe a planted tank expert can help!

Thanks all for your help on this one, i think i have it solved , spoke to Darren in sh , he said yes the co2 infuser is best on the inlet pipe to the filter this increases absorbtion of the gas into the water , the problem is that the difusser disc has become dirty and partly blocked , only allowing big bubbles of gas into the filter that then get trapped causing the noise and flury of large bubbles out of the intake pipe . I didnt ever realise there was a disc in this type of defuser. So will get a new disc at the weekend . Thats the thing i love about this hobby you learn all the time . Thanks Robert
