Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

So I was interested to read your post, I checked the regular cost of the software and then registered on that forum and the adds there link to the software for sale at the same price, so I don't see any advantage of signing up. If anyone wants the software buy it, don't worry about registering on the forum BUT before you do, read on.
I just installed it, thankfully registration and set-up was no problem, but on inital examination it looks EXTREMELY basic and may suit some one with one tank, but then you could remember what fish you had in your head and would not need a computer program to tell you when to do a water change! The database is laughable - there are only 4 corydoras species, two apistogramma and no freshwater angelfish! See you can find a trial version before parting with £30 sterling.
I will play around with it again later and if I find any redeeming features I will report back here.
Daragh

We've been working with a few fish keepers in the last few months to cram as much functionality into version 2 of the software as possible. One of the biggest things that let it down was the database of livestock (or lack of) which you have noted Daragh and it's a fair comment.

Lots of hard work has resulted in a new release going out finally today (existing users will have an option to upgrade for free and get a new subscription to the update service).
Alongside getting a database up and running (current 2900+ fish, 170+ plants, corals, inverts etc etc), we have also integrated professional photos for the livestock. We own 7500+ photos now which are getting integrated on a daily basis (2600 of the fish have photographs so far.)
I really do welcome any feedback on the product and if anyone has any questions, let me know on the open forum or via PM. This software is designed by fish keepers like myself and we take on board any suggestions to add into the software.
Many thanks, Stuart

We were running a trial version on the website, but found this opened us up to people hacking the software, as it was a free download. We can't offer this any more because of that reason.
We have a large user base who are using this software and we have every confidence in it's features.
You should have an email by now with the upgrade details Daragh - please give it a try; it won't cost you anything.
Thanks, Stuart

I have said several times in this thread already that I am NOT charging you. You paid for the software in the first place and I am saying you are getting it again FREE - no cost, no hassle, no obligation. I don't know why you keep suggesting you will be "paying again". Could you please at least give me the opportunity to defend 5 years of work that you are dismissing with a simple "it's useless" comment.
We are a small company and I am doing everything I can here to restore your faith. You are giving our software a bad review here and I am not sure what else I can do to restore your faith. Hope we can sort this out anyway with no hard feelings. The new version is not costing you anything and I am sure you will like it. You don't have anything to lose.
Thanks,
Stuart
