Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Alright lads, the twist in this Amazon set up is 'Redmoor wood' and 'Anubias'(neither from South America).....The fish will be of South American(Amazon) origin but still undecided on which fish to use........i have a good few different species out in the shed so i'll look at that in a couple of days.

here's the set up so far:

nice setup. i really like the suspended redmoor. i have a piece of bogwood suspended from the central spar in my juwel aquarium, but nothing as cool as this

What size tank is it?
Where did you end up getting the sand?

Looks cool. What type of sand is in there. Also how did you suspend the wood? Suction cups, silicon ore something else?

cheers lads, appreciate the good feedback :)

I have since added water to it from other tanks that are holding softish and really darkly stained water and also Teak and Almond leaves have sunk and are leaching lots of tannins so i'm really happy with how the tank is looking now (pictures to follow).

I was initially going to screw suction cups onto the wood but me and suction cups have had a good few scary moments in the past so i decided not to and siliconed three 4 inch wide pieces of glass across the tank at either end (leaving a gap for the filter pipes) and 1 in the centre and pinned the wood to them using cable ties.....As opposed to the suction cup option, the wood feels really secure and is definitely not going anywhere.

The sand is white silica sand and is looking good now with the leaves on it.

@Ciaran...It's the 4 foot tank i think i showed yeh through the window with the rocks and Mbuna's in it and i got the sand up in Artane Aquatics, more reasonable than i thought it was....10 euro for a 5kg bag, happy days :)

The fish i'm thinking of putting in it is:

4 F1 Sp.Santa Isabel Angelfish
5 Laetacara Dorsigera
3/6 L144 'type' Ancistrus
10/12 Cardinal Tetras
6/8 Corydoras schwartzi

I'll whack up a few more pictures when i start stocking the tank and thanks again for the nice feedback.
