Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

You need to find a hosting site like www.photobucket.com/ . Read the instructions and upload your photo. Then view your photo on the site and save the URL (the address in the address bar of your browser when you're viewing your photo). Paste the URL into your mail, select the URL text and then hit Img in the options above the posting text box. Hit Preview and you should see your picture. Once you're happy with the results, hit Submit.

Regards,

Ken.

OK, I registered with PhotoChicken.com, but they are simply a hosting provider.
Since I already have a hosting site, can I not just do some magic and make them appear in this site>

What html tags do I use, or wotever?

Tell me lads, please.

Sometimes the URL from the hosting site just lists the name of the picture at the end. You may need to add ".jpg" to display the picutre. I use www.pbase.com and have found that this is necessary.

Ken.

I already host my pics on the InTarWeb, so no need for a hosting provider.

I'll try something:

Lets see if it works :?:

--> edited to make work.

hmmm, why does it not work then?

This site supports bb codes right?
So why then can I not embed?

quote from here:
www.notbbc.co.uk/features/4/forum_bb_codes.html

The [img] tag allows you to embed images within your posts. You can also combine this tag with the [url] tag to maked images become links. Usage [img]value[/img]

Help me Obi-Wan

--> Solution "Uncheck disable BBcodes"

Before you submit or preview your picture you must disable BBcode.
See box under your post.

Hey Conor

From what I can tell the problem seem to be with your website that you are trying to host/link the pictures from. I was having a quick look through your site for the picture

www.discuskeeping.com/reefkeeping/slides/DSCN4144.JPG

When I try and access the image by pasting the above url into my address bar it tells me that it is forbidden. Then when I try and source it by going through your web site to the "Reef Gallery" listing on the right hand side on the home page, it tells me that there is a error 404 and I cant see anything

This leads me to believe that these pages must have a fault in them somewhere and that is why the images are not showing up. For instance if I use an image from the discus pages that are working on your site the [img]value[/img] html text works as it should. I hope you don't mind me demonstrating with one of your pics.

Hope this helps you solve the problem.

Lead me not into temptation, For I can find it myself!

There we go, disable "expletive" BBcode was ticked all along.

I also niticed that refreshing the pics on the site causes a 404. Never mind, they work anyway, and I have to redo the site coz it sucks. :o

Thanks to all who showed me the light - especially platty :P
