Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi guys would it be possible to get some kind of instant chat addon for the web site. They have this on some of the gaming forum's I used to freequent. That way if people are logged on that you are in the middle of a forum conversation with you could speak to them directly.I've been online quite a few times where I had gotten a reply to a post by someone who was still online , but the only way to comunicate with them was just to post on the thread again.

This is just a suggestion and might take away from the amount of posts and threads that are being made and replied to on the forum's.But I have found it to speed up things on other forums and make it easier for people to explain more complicated issues when they are in direct dialog.I have seen them to be done two ways #1 is very much like the face book chat where it is private convo between 2 people. #2is more like a chat room for the forum where you can speak to someone who is online , but everyone online can see the conversation and can but in on what your talking about.Another suggestion would be to get a teamspeak or vent server, which would act very much like skype. Instead of constant typing you can just speak directly to the person.

Cheers Stuart.

Stuart,
I think this was the very reason why Darragh set up the facebook thing.
I don't use that myself so do not know if it is being used.
I sympathise with what you are asking for, but don't think it would be possible.

Hi Stuart,

We have tried it before, however not enough people where online at the same time to make it viable.

whilst i agree it is a good idea stuart, just think of all the valuable talk that would be lost if not everyone was logged into that chat window.
