Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I was thinking would it be a good idea to
Have a user profile section,
Sort of like Facebook but with a watery twist
Fishbook! ;)
With lists of stock you have
Equipment you like or use
Stock your on the lookout for
And the likes
Just a thought!
What do you lads think?

Anyone with a aquarium can keep fish,
But it takes real skill to be a fish keeper,

And it's spongeBob,

Food for thought indeed.
Let's see what response your suggestion receives.
Setting it up might prove to be a challenge with existing Forum server - but the idea's certainly a good one.
It would need to be a voluntary thing though - not a condition of Forum membership.
Who's for and who would be against?

Tbh I wouldn't Like to make things harder for the administration
Of the site but I'm sure it could be like a single personal tread
To update as the user sees fit(within reason)
And to new members signing up this could eliminate
The introduce yourself section!

I don't think the introduce yourself section is there to tell us what you got or what you want but more a welcoming to the forum with a chance to say hello to existing members and tell them a little about yourself :)

I'm much less funny in reality. I have to sit down for ages with my paper, crayons and blunt scissors to think up the stuff I say on here

Honestly I was a little sceptical at 1st, although I didn't like to say it earlier and come across as a complete grumpy, but I now think it was a good idea :) ... unless I have to send a pm or I'm lookin for a specific post I don't view others profile pages so I think its perfect where it is so well done to all that voted for it.
I'll stick mine up when I have it drafted together because it takes me a while to think about it :)

Great idea!

I'll get crackin on something, see if I can find a photo of me with a hat that can compete with Ians.

If I'm looking for a particular species, is the best way just to do a search for it in the profile section then?
