Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Having spend a great day today at Petstop and got some lovely stock. I was thinking how much we benefit from our Sponsors and what we could do by the way of a thank you so i was wondering if we could set a week for each of the Sponsors were we would highlight Them have a profile of staff and their stock and maybe informed of plans for their future and if this would was run in conjunction with open days even better.

we are so lucky in the quality of the Sponsors we have and lets show them we do care and thank Them for the way they look after us.

good idea, once a month maybe?

on another note: could it be the forum's registered posting time is synced to CET while the displayed time of posting is local time? e.g. the most recent posts are usually posted about one hour in the future. otherwise it could also be that I live in a temporal anomaly. Probably I get too fat an create my own black hole.

Markus,
I find if you reverse the polarity on the tachyon emitter before you engage the verteron field, that'll clear the problem right up.
Glad to be of help!

Re:Sponsors
Shouldn't they also be encouraged to expand on their areas of the site?
Staff profiles and store descriptions could easily be added, hell, maps, stock lists, preorder requests, all manner of things could be done here.
I think the sponsors sections are underutilised.

Staff profiles. Come visit us and talk.
Maps, google earth answers most problems.
Preorders are done via PM or phone.
Stock lists are already up.

To be honest, I don't think theres much more that you could do to the sponsor section. Theres only so much you can gather from a computer screen all of the above can be done by calling into the shop.

However, if there is change. I'm more than welcome to try.

I think these new ideas are what could make us one of the best forums in Europe if not the World. It is typical Irish negative mentality to look for negativity in everything, sure Im guity of it myself. But one thing I do know is there is huge potential here, not the cliched kind, the bloody real kind that frustrates people to not see utilised.

I think staff profiles would be great. This would let the customer know what fish etc the staff member keeps and their area of particular expertise. If anything it will atract customers to that shop if they see a staff member is expert in their area of interest. It would also keep shops on their toes and honest? If at all possible:P

Keep the ideas coming folks.

I think it would be a great idea for both the retailers and the customers. It would give customers a chance to see who there dealing with and as mentioned already, to find out the retailers expertise.. There is always positive and negative aspects to idea's. Thats what the forum is about but over all it sounds great to me.B) We can Start in Aquarium solutions!!:P :P :P

With plenty of time and effort it could another great success.

We can gauge this for another while but if someone feels strongly enough maybe they could draft up a template with all the necessary questions/headings, Name, Shop, Current Interests, Current Setups, Favourite Fish etc etc....

Mickey, it's a great idea, though I would be inclined to turn it on it's head, maybe another one of those temporal anomolies, but I think the shops have a fantastic facilty here, with instant access to serious fishkeepers, where they can display there goods and services etc etc. I think the shops should make much much better use of the sections - sorry Dave I don't agree with your comments, you need to get the people into the shop first.

Agreed, we do our bit already, visting the sponsors and spending money, full use of the facillities here by the shops not only benefits forum memebers, it will pay off for the sponsors hansomely.

Some of the sponsors have never even posted a listing, never mind tell us what they specialise in, what they have in stock etc etc.
