Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

The question may be premature as I do not know if the facility can be made available on the site, but lets assume it can.

Would anyone here regularly update their blog, it could be anything fish related, generally what you are up to, how you tank is doing, a new breeding project, anything.

Maintained like an online diary, regularly updated with text and pictures.

I have created an external fish blog, but I am not linking it here for the moment, I need somewhere to vent off :woohoo: Bag of guppies to the first person to find it.

Seriously though, would anyone here maintain a blog if the facility was available?

Excellent Suggestion Daragh, as Paul says - it would be good to follow other Forum members' projects, especially from planning stage, right through to completion.

Like you suggest, the facility for this venture mightn't be available but if it is I see no reason at all why this shouldn't become a valuable and most interesting addition to the Forum.

\"I don't believe it\" as Victor Meldrew would say it.

Miss Marple found me!! I don't know how, but she did.

If you look up \"Miss Marple\" on Wiki it starts off by saying she is a fictional character - don't believe it, she is alive and well and operating under the alias of \"Valerie\" on this forum. :woohoo:

One sack of guppies coming up.

Don't pass on the URL, I am interested to see if anyone else can rumble me.

You should have known better than to throw open such a challenge to herself...Miss Marple isn't in the same league!!!

Wikipedia:

Jane Marple, usually known as Miss Marple, is a fictional character appearing in twelve of Agatha Christie's crime novels. Miss Marple is an elderly spinster who acts as an amateur detective...
...She looks like an ordinary old lady, dressed neatly in tweed and is frequently seen knitting or pulling weeds in her garden. Miss Marple sometimes comes across as confused or \"fluffy\", ...

You surely are talking about someone else, the description doesn't match AT ALL !
