Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

there are many times when i find my self reading post which i think is done in an inappropriate manner!

A lot of these are to do with sponsors.

thus i find i must ask Admin to take action on this!

All to often i read post complaining about sponsors. this that and the other some are valid some are unfair.

i know from personal experience of visiting many sponsors they like us all have good weeks and bad weeks and on the odd occasion i noticed a problem it was corrected

Not alone are disrespectful to sponsors they are disrespectful to forum members who visit these sponsors because it imply they do not care about were they buy their stock or the quality of their stock. An to be honest insults the many many greet fishkeepers on this forum!!!!!!!!!!!!

thus i suggest that any further complaints be first PM to admin and after receiving a complaint that admin ask a forum member to visit and ask question and offer the support of the forum and members in correcting any misunderstandings

we have many great sponsor who support us and this would show our respect for them.

Please remember that the Admin has quite a few other things to do on the forum and should not have to get involved with personal disputes with sponsors or anyone else. I can state from personal experience that it is a very thankless job and one that only an admin has any idea of how much is involved. There is alot that goes on in the background to keep the forum ticking over that members never see or hear about.

Common sense should be the order of the day, no sponsor or any shop should be slated here for any reason. If somone has an issue they should try and resolve with the sponsor and if they are posting here, they should stick to clear facts. The forum relies on sponsors to some extend and one member should not do anything to jepodise that, on the other hand if they have a genuine issue and have been unable to resolve it privately stating the relevant facts in an appropriate thread should not be an issue - though I will bow to the current admin on the position on that as I have not read the rules lately - which I should do, as should everyone else should.
