Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Signature Sizes!

Before it gets out of control, might I suggest that the size of a user signature is limited to links or a photo that is not too tall. Multiple photos can be shown side by side, but should still be kept small.

Anyone agree, disagree?

Daragh;

I wasn't aware you could put them in as big as you wanted. But on note of what you said , yes I agree there should be a set size which isn't taken too much space.

I agree. I know when i put some up side by side i was kindly asked to remove them because they were making treads to long and they were a distraction.
Maybe people could just put a link to there photo's instead.

I have to agree, as someone who was 'blessed' with a very slow dial-up before Christmas the multiple pictures were taking forever to download - pity the poor people still forced to connect by that method!

Secondly they really aren't that necessary - people have seen the pictures once, do they really want to see them again and again?

Thirdly, as Darragh Sherwin has to pay for the use of the Forum Software the more pictures the larger the bandwidth is used - and the more he has to pay (I think this is right?).

Perhaps, for those who need to show pictures of their tank, there should be a stipulation made that only one picture is used and it is only a low-resolution image? - Just a suggestion.

I wish I had a digital camera - then I could put up a picture showing my blanket weed in all its glory...

A person can always start a thread showcasing their tank in the photo lounge and then post a link to it in there sig. At least then the people with slow connections don't have to wait ages for a page to load and the option is there if people want to check out the tank .

No sigs are betta.

We all know a big sig is usually a sign of something else being very smallB)

Oops, did not mean to be a thread killer! Please continue.
