Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

This is just a quick suggestion and it is open to ridicule and criticism!!

I found out about this forum when Gavin from wackers thrust a flier into my paw a while back. Before that I had been blogging on another site as I wasn't aware that this forum existed.

Although I haven't been to all the fish shops in the Dublin area (yet), I have only seen advertisement (fliers) for this forum in two shops (wackers and aquatic village).

I was wondering if it would be possible for the flyer to be posted on the forum so that if anyone was interested they could save the file to their computer and print off a couple of copies on their home/work printer. (Think about it 10 A4 pages could make thirty fliers!) These could then be distributed to the smaller fish shops in your area.

I'm aware of three (small and unknown) pets shop in my area alone, that would have no problem with keeping a couple of fliers beside their till and hand them out with sales of fish and fish related products. This would also be a very good way of getting more members from the country involved. The more people that do this the greater the area that could be covered. With the existing members on this forum we can cover a very large proportion of Ireland. Plus it will cost very little to make 30 fliers and most people visit their LFS once a month, so if you are going why not bring a couple of fliers! Maybe the reason why most of the members on this forum are from Dublin is because it has only been advertised in this area up till now.

Comments and suggestions are welcome!

Regards

Denis

Good idea.
PDF format would be best.

Yes,
I agree, anything to let other fishkeepers know about and hopefully join us must be good...even though I don't have an LFS myself to put fliers in, there are others of you who will be able to.

I don't know who gives out the fliers to the shops in Dublin, but If they send me the image to my email I can host it on my photo-bucket site if they don't have one (Anthony or Darren might know). Also if it needs to be tweaked or edited slightly so that it shows up well in plane black print I would be more than happy to do this (beats writing a thesis).

Denis send Goldy a pm. She may be able to send you a copy of the flyer.
I have no way of putting it on my computer.
