Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

My tank is 180 litres and its using the juwel internal bioflow at the moment...
My question is whats your review on this filter.... and my main question is
Do i go for :-
E900- 90-300 litre
E1500 -200-600 litre
As its only 180 litres and i will be using the internal filter too... should i go for the e900?
Or pay the extra bit for the 1500 ...will there be any benefits from upgrading to the E1500?
Thanks in advance for replies. Hoooppefully

Gourami x2
Danio x8
rasboro x9
mini cory cats x5
Siamese algae eater x3
Ottos x 5
So i dont think those are any fish that want to high a flow... i just want an extra filter for added bacteria housing so i can throw in some rummynose ....

I don't know about the rest of the lads on here with there's but my E900 would definitely not be suitable for a bed room!
I think I remember someone saying it was very quite that they had to put there head to the filter to see if it was running but my one has a definite hum to it which i can hear from around 15 feet away.
Now iv just set it up a few days ago so i'll take the head off it later to see the impeller and make sure it's all working properly and get back to you..

I have a JBL 1501... Please go with a 901 or 1501 if you wish to keep your electric bills low.
My 1501 is on a Juwel 450l display tank in the kitchen and there is barely a whisper. The internal
filter was definitely noisier!
Cheers
Abe

the only time it has been noisy was if there was air trapped among the media or when the pipes were clogged with debris. i'd say mark air is your problem... its the 1 thing that use to do my bloody head in

As for bedroom tanks......having a protein skimmer running on a bedside tank puts any JBL external well to the bottom of the list of worries on noise.

haha mark and davey your scaring me. this is going into my bed room.... along with the fluval u1 internal and juwel bioflow internal i have in two tanks.... any added humming and ill feel like im asleep on a f*cki*g airplane everynight
haha, in saying that i only had to clean the prefilters regularly so there was no need to remove the rest of the media too often but once ye get the hang of it ye shouldn't hear a thing pal

So what do you think of the e901 other than it being quiet? Quiet is a good start of course as mine will be in dinning room. Does it feel well put together and was it easy enough to set up?
Thanks

I got the hang of putting it together straight away, except for me siphoning the water into the filter without fully opening all the valves, but thats my own stupidity. In terms of silence, i just cant hear it at all... i have to touch it to feel the vibration so i know its still working. The flow is great for my 180 litre and since ive bought it ive really been able to stock my tank loads without any parameter worries, ive around 50 fish now i think including 4 large garraflavatra. Its a great filter and im very happy with it as its my first external. Im almost considering removing my juwel internal and running 2 901s

I hate the Juwel internals with a vengeance and I'm so glad I replaced the one on my Vision 180 with a JBL external. I'm planning on cutting the filter out of my Juwel Rekord70 and replacing it with a better, less ugly internal
The internals certainly aren't sightly....I left mine in though and added an e901 external to it.....water is really crystal clear at all times and its so quiet I've doubted it was even working.....
