Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I like the music that most people seem to hate. So that shows how cool and hip I am.

Maybe some YouTube links to selected fav songs?
Maybe even some links to anyone own material?

RUSH
John

Only if I'm in sour mood will I link to my YouTube account (so that means I have to limit my posts to being between 10 and 11 at night when I'm in a good mood

But....be warned: I may also get bored of TV between 10 and 11 (which is most likely as well).
Rush are one of my favourite all-time bands. 2112 and Farewell to Kings would be my favourites of theirs.
I'm a Classical Music fan;
Big into Prog Rock (the music that many people hate)...
My top Prog Rock bands are: Yes, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Genesis (Peter Gabriel Genesis that is), and the superbly mega Van Der Graaf Generator.
Never Mind...by the Sex Pistols is a classic album.
I can't stand listening to Jazz, but love playing it (because it is totally self-indulgent clutter).
So, no igmillichip YouTube videos psoted yet then John.

Anyone with a aquarium can keep fish,
But it takes real skill to be a fish keeper,
And it's spongeBob,

Actually as a side note what radio stations do yous listen to .larely for me it's been radio nova
I've switched to radio nova some months ago......one my musical heros is a DJ on there (Rick Wakeman....and his live comedy shows are also pretty good).
A good selection of music on there, and they may even play the full version of Free Bird (now that is a track to drive up the motorway when hard Kick-Down on the pedals).

I used to play the bass in a band years ago, so I used to always listen to the bass in any song first and only nowadays does the rest of the song get a look in! So Acara, maddest bass player ever- les Claypool from Primus (southpark title music band). Best drummer- YouTube Vadrum/ super mario, that guys amazing but I dunno how to add a link on here! Best guitar, either Tom Morello from Rage against the machine/ Jimi Hendrix or Dave Gilmore/ Roger Waters from Pink Floyd (best album Meddle)! Best on the decks, the chap that dj's with Beck, astounding!
Rock On Tommy!

If that is all they played, then I'd have been happy....but nope, they play more and really great stuff that Pink Floyd stopped playing in the 70s.
What would be my fav PF album?....I'd go for Animals, followed by either Meddle or Atom Heart.
@Acara.....oooh, George Thoroughgood being cited. Great to see some of the less well known artists being mentioned.
For superb songs, I would also have to name the Mamas and the Pappas, and Jefferson Airplane.
For musical interest...Focus.
How about some YouTube vids?..........
Nantucket Sleighride by Mountain........ab fab, and get that tune at about 1 minute 40 secs.

Feck it, sure why not
here's a couple of tunes I made, I usually just keep it simple or else get way over complicated with it, some very experimental, probably almost to the point of being unlistenable...
here's a couple of the more Mellow Tunes...
...hope they don't get ridiculed too much...
I'll link some more experimental/ up tempo ones later...

@Des.......good lad for posting some of your own.
What equipment/software did you use there?
cheers Ian
...just simple Software
Cool Edit Pro
a Midi Keyboard
& a very basic four track (Magix)
I have Pro tools n' some other good hardware n' software but I only use them the odd time
I like using the 4 track especially for percussion because Your not limited to using just 4/4, it's great for making off beat music
You can split the bar into 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/64, 1/128, 1/256, 1/512 and on and on...
I never use samples or premade loops, just My own sounds and samples...

Here's an exert from a gig we did many moons ago. This is just me and the drummer, I had my trusty GR-300 put through a 1970 Tone Bender fuzz and then into a loop-back stomp box (it records something I play for 3 seconds and then loops it back....that was the backing rhythm guitar), then plonked into my (now dead) H&H amp from 1971 and then micked to the trusty (but now dead) Pink Floyd style mega WEM PA system.
The idea was to mind-warp the audience with Doppler effects bouncing from the back of the room (unfortunately this was recorded in mono).
Enjoy or be bored.
and here is one from 1991....showing the problem of recording from a live set: the singer forgot to start singing until verses into the song (so had to make something up), and then my guitar synth failed to track properly near the end when that was kicked into action.
(and I even shot then video of a hand glider over Killiney Hill for the video effects)
