Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

sorry to hear that but as the old saying goes every cloud has its silver lining. And i am sure you will be positive about it and turn this round as a new beginning with new opportunities.
i remember in the eighties when we were having it bad there was always opportunities if you wanted to see them.

I'm truly sorry to hear this news - both for yourself and the many others who will be losing their jobs both at Dell and all the anciliary companies which will be affected. I just saw on the news some executive saying how sad it all was, but that they have to remain competitive - I bet he isn't one of those being made redundant!!!
I loathe these creeps and their crocodile tears.
Do you have any opportunities for work elsewhere?

I am in the centre of Dublin every day and while the recession has not had a negative impact where I work (yet) it is certainly visable around town from the number of people and the number of pwople spending etc.

One way or another the recession hits us all. Personal i am having to do a lot more work for the same old wage. It is getting to the stage were if i dont leave i will end up working myself into an early grave.
I know this may sound a bit crazy but this country has gone to the dogs in the last couple of years. Greed, ignorance and selfishness greets you each time you walk out your front door. A recession might just bring us back down to earth.
A little bit of poverty can bring out the best in people.
Rant over.

Dell had being planning this move for more than a year and had nothing to do with the recession, it was a cost cutting exercise, it just comes at the worst time.
Having said that it still sucks being laid off, I was laid off about 6 years and my missus was laid off just before Christmas from a hedge fund just because their profits were down.

As ye say every cloud has its silver lining and to be honest the shift work has taken its toll on me and I could do with getting back to a routine:) . I don’t blame Dell this country is way over priced and needs change. The problem now is there is going to be no work in limerick for a long time so I need to think about getting out of here
