Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Ifsomeone wants to post an ad for a 2 foot tank at €1000, leave them at it, the lack of response should be sufficent to tell them they may need to revise there pricing strategy.
If someone wants to post an ad with minimal details and no photo - leave them at it, we are not marketing gurus and suggestions for photos and more details should only come from people that are interested in buying, not just bumping a dumb ad.
I know if I was selling something I would certainly not appreciate someone "valuing" it for me especially when they have no intention to purchase at any price

Rant over, normal service will return shortly.
Daragh

This is still going on today, people are still advising other’s how to sell their tanks etc. Would it be possible to have a template that has to be filled in before anything can be sold and this might stop people giving advice on how to sell?

This last advert for a tank specifically invites interested people to phone or email the man to discuss price etc.
If you can't be bothered to abide by his suggested terms don't come on here whingeing that he hasn't given a price.
The ad was most specific about what is being offered...phone or email the man! No template is necessary.

I'm with Daragh on this one.

I totally agree with johnh on this.the seller gives two mobile numbers+email . i think if you are anyway interested in buying a tank that size you would ring the seller anyway. personally i would prefer to talk to the seller because it answers all the questions very quickly without the bs. also i would leave opinions out about the look of the tank. one mans style is another's shi!, for example I like the fish plates, would be nice painted maybe.

Anyone who is going to buy tanks anyhow will end up ringing and also are likely to ask for a photo in fairness, but a template eliminates alot of the needless questions on the forum or indeed via phonecalls. If Im selling a tank Im going to include details that people will want to know such as:
Age of the tank, general condition, make of the tank, a picture,if used for marine or tropical previously and any other info that may be appropriate (eg lightening, stand, measurements, volume etc).
This would eliminate all the comments, all the remarks and still allow the option of someone contacting the seller directly whether they do or dont put a price on the ad. People are always going to ask questions but an awful lot can be eliminated through basic stats on the items for sale.
