Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Do they take a lot of time feeding and cleaning etc, I know what it's like looking after a bunch of fish tanks and wondered if reptiles are as labour intensive.

Thanks very much for all the comments.
@ Cardinal, I don't have any reptiles at the moment hoping to get a shed set-up this summer as my girlfriend doesn't like snakes at all.
@Jay, beardies are cool there like the dog of the lizard world. They can be fairly smelly doh. If you need any help or advice when you getting yours give me a shout.
@Derek, i have kept and raised alot of snakes and lizards over the years. I have been keeping reptiles since i was 15.
@Daragh, None have went missing on me but i do hear a lot of storys about corn and milk snakes going missing. Any snakes i have ever kept in vivariums were always locked.
Snakes are usual fed twice a week to once a month depending on there size and the rodent size they would be feed.
They should be given fresh water everyday as some snakes go the toilet in the water while others bade in the water before a going into a shed.
Every morning before work i would check on them.
Then again when i got home.
I would change there substrate weekly.
@Platty252, We have a lot of wasted space as there is only 2 of us living in a 4 bedroom house so i thought i'd get a bed for each of them haha. Thanks, brb are stunning.
@Tim, thanks.

My Missus would have a heart attack just looking at the pictures...
Speaking of missing snakes.. A friend of mine that does security in the square in Tallaght found a 4 foot snake loose on the roof in the square.
There isn't a petshop in the square so God knows where it came from...

Justine says 'Hi' to you by the way.
And, just to be a bit cheeky and to link to a post above.....I'll throw up a picture of one of Justine's baby Beardies hatching: just to help sway people towards reptiles.
You've met Justine.....so you know what her reaction was to seeing this darling pop out of its egg.

Maybe I'll pop up a few Reptile and Poison dart frog pics on a new thread.
Pete, maybe sometime in the future you'll get back to the reptiles.

@ Ken, These grow to a massive size and end up needing very big enclosures. Females can grow up to 16ft long (19/20ft in the wild i think) so you always need a helping hand or two when cleaning or handling.
There is Dwarf burmese Python's which only grow to about 8 ft.
But its hard an expensive to get a true dwarf burm.
Saying that the price of them has come down a lot over the last few years.
Dwarf are also nuts compared to normal burms.
