Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

These are then a few Invert that J will not be bringing for the special Invert Classes on Sunday. She's most upset over that.:(

They're definitely too big for feeding, even to my Snakeheads!

Thanks for the pictures though Ian.

Nice to see a bit of variety.
Daragh will love them (from his computer, anyway!).

I don't usually handle Tarantulas, but funnily enough the only animal above that I would be cautious of handling is the green stick insect.......it can deliver a heavy punch with them back legs if you scare them.
There are some nice thorns on the back legs.

But....as you can see,..... J is well trained on handling them.

The Mexican Red Knee tarantula is much larger nowadays than in the pictures....she is full size and getting to be about 9 or 10 years old.

The Whip Scorpion.....is totally harmless, looks amazing, looks fearsome. The only problem with them is they are fast, so not handlable (and not really something that we do anyway because of the stress induced by handling)

I love the look of the stick insect but have to admit the whip scorpion just makes me shudder..

As for the spider, as much as I would like to go outside of my comfort zone and hold a creature like that, I just don't think I could.
I've had a "thing" about spiders ever since a big one popped out of a hole in an armchair that I was sitting on. I was eating dinner at the time & got such a shock that the plate was flung across the room in attempt to escape

I'm not generally a fan of insects but do appreciate their diversity & their general weirdness.
If I could choose a favourite it would have to be a flower mantis or a goliath beetle.

Ian great photos, lovely creatures, but I prefer them behind glass!

Actually I don't really mind spiders or any creature generally unless it is fast moving, that's when I reach for the bicycle clips.

Dave, is that photo real or photoshopped. I am trying to think of a good reason for a beetle to have a human face on it's back, it is not really likely to put off predators!

Nice collection Ian. Love the whip scorpion. I was fascinated the first time i saw one.

Dave do those beetles give off a nasty stench if threatened?
