Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

That thanks is extended to others involved in the organising of the show. I could see a lot of hard work had been put into organising the Show; I'm sure that the work of the ITFS organisers was appreciated by all.
I will also thank Justine (H.S.I. Secretary) and Mark (Editor of Lacerta) for helping me man the H.S.I. stand. And thanks to two of our Scientific Officers and their new baby (of a week old) for giving a helping hand on Saturday night.
It was a super day, and we thoroughly enjoyed the show and chatting to people about life, fish and the animals that we had on display.
We got a lot on interest in some of our animals….but I think that the Poison Dart Frogs did grab a few peoples imagination.
3 of my animals send their apologies for being slightly anti-social on Sunday…namely the young lungfish who decided to stay at the back of its tank behind the bogwood, and the two Tiger Salamanders who decided that they would do one of two things that they are excellent at: digging down underground…well they are mole salamanders (and the other thing is being bolder than life, not afraid of anyone or anything, whilst being overly greedy for food).
Hope all enjoyed the show; we certainly did.
So, thanks again to the organisers for giving us the opportunity to set-up a stand at the show.
Ps. Many of us (especially myself, are fish keepers)

Thank you so much for your comments. I am glad you enjoyed the show and you are right it is a lot of hard work but well worth it. Thank you for all of your hard work in setting up your own stand and manning it during the show.
Your stand was amazing and it certainly had great interest. I got a chance to speak to you during all the prep work and I find the whole mix of creatures intriguing to say the least. The creatures are so varied and interesting but you are right I think the poison dart frogs stole the show, well at least for me anyway.
Thanks you to your members from the herp society and to you and your partner for all the hard work you put into the display on the day. It was a pleasure to have you there and hopefully you attend at future shows.
Thanks again.

Ian had a great chat with you on the day, really thinking of getting into those poision arrow frogs now, your knowledge on the subject is exceptional, who knows if the other half allows i may be in contact soon about this
Thanks.
With the PDFs....once you have a good set-up with careful planning and can secure food, then they are a great 'front-room' display piece that will certainly sway the heart of anyones Other Half (surely).
Living Jewels in the front room? what else could one ask for.

It was an absolute joy to come across your stand. It was the first time I'd actually seen a Dendrobates leucomelas in the flesh as it were. I was intrigued by the whole set-up. I will take this opportunity to inform you that I will be making an absolute nuisance of myself in you PM box over the comming months as I get to grips with this whole South American Paludarium project.
I wish I'd taken photographs of the frogs, one of many things I forgot on that glorious day.
I feel another article comming on....

Thanks again for providing another aspect to the fish show, interesting and informative.
Are there many articles surrounding Dartfrogs in the Society Newsletter.
Regards

Comming from someone who has already put a fair few hours into embarking on a venture into PDF's (Leucs)

To date, our newsletter is only a year old.
There has not been any articles on Dart Frogs in it yet.
Our website also does not have any small articles.....I've not allowed 'caresheets' to be published for dart frogs as I believe that they should be treated with a greater understanding.
But keep a watch, and maybe you may wish to consider joining.
If I had decided to bring along the smaller dart frogs (eg R. vanzolini) then seeing them in the flesh would have really inspired you to get that viv built quickly.
