Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

We shall add more details later, but for the minute here is confirmation that a Photo Competition for the remainder of July starts from NOW and will run until midnight on July 31.
Please read the rules and guidelines here thanks to Stretnik I've finally been able to add a link (if it works...).

Entries to (another link) (hoping these work...).

Good luck to all entrants.

John

Well, the links were an abject failure (not like me at all...).
I'll try to get the links going later, but the rules are here:

OK, I can see the sizing is wrong, but this must be a problem with the picture hosting site (NO WAY could the admin be at fault.
We'll look into this either later or in the morning - so these two are just to give you an idea of the subject matter.
Please don't let this put you off entering.

OK,
I seem to have resolved the sizing issue now - entry #1 is smaller because it was submitted as a small picture and could not be brought up to the size without seriously reducing image quality - this is about the best compromise I could achieve.

With less than a week to go I must say the number of entries is disappointing - to say the least.

How can we expect Sponsors (especially in these difficult times) to continue to cough up competition prizes with such a poor turn-out of entries?

Let's at least show a bit of enthusiasm lads.

Having said that - I'm a fine one to talk - I haven't even charged up the battery for my camera...let's hope the entries start flooding in from now until the end of the month.

I'm very sorry everyone,
I've been a bit preoccupied with my lost keys and this topic became rather overlooked.

Could you please all look through the entries and choose your favourite then send the entry number to me at

We'll keep the voting open until midnight Sunday.

Get your August entries ready, we'll be asking for them immediately after then.

I do hope we don't end up like on a previous occasion - only four votes so far!

Sometimes I get to wondering...

Right then,
A most disappointing show of votes cast this time around, but the winner is Melander's almost 'freaky' Ancistrus head Pic (no. 5). Closely followed by Viperbot'd Blue Dolphin (no. 3) with third place going to number 6 from Dar.
So, congratulations to these entrants and commiserations to everyone else who entered July's Competition.
We'll get the winner posted on the Home Page in the morning.
But...be ready - August's round starts tomorrow.

John
Andreas, when you're next online send me a PM and we can organise your prize.

A special mention, I feel, should be made for photo number 7, taken - very well, I thought - by seven-year-old Adam Harty...we should look to our laurels!
Well done Adam.

Quality entrys as usual from the lads/lassies with a very good winner, well done Melander. I ended up voting for Dar's ram but then again I've yet to pick the winner of the photo comp. in about 15 attempts!!

There were some really good pictures in this competition, some good full shots and some impressive close-ups.

What a pity that so few people voted in a competition with some good photos (for the voters: remember it is more difficult to photograph a fish than it is to send JohnH a vote e-mail).

Well done the winner, and keep up the good work for those not winning a prize.
