Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I think not many people was in this show
Believe me, there were lots of people coming and going throughout the time the Show was open to the public and I saw quite a lot of them taking pictures - be it with cameras or phones.
We had notices telling everyone who was of a mind to read them about the Photo Competition.
I personally think the reluctance to submit their pictures has been disappointing to say the least.
Hopefully you'll all start submitting your snapshots in time for the deadline - it's a worthwhile prize (not to be sniffed at) and there aren't very many Ts&Cs.
So let's see a bit of a 'last minute rush'.

Yep. It was pretty jammers alright. I know that we had so many people taking pics at our stand that not even I could get in to take a picture (apart from a picture of people taking pictures !!)
Maybe people are seeking a bit of perfection, and taking photos of fish in the show tanks doesn't always give that 'perfect' picture.

I think not many people was in this show
As the lads said it was very busy
As for taking photos i seen a good few taking some and then we put out posters and the Irish Fish Keppers Pgone Comp and the prize and what has to be done
And have to say after that there was a lot with the phones and cameras out so i know that photos are there just need to get them sent in
@Ian any off our photo comps is not about the 'perfect' picture as you know mate
its a bit off fun and even better that at the end off the off it there is a prize
As i have seen many photos comp winning with with non 'perfect' pictures and have to say even though they where maybe only taking with a photo it is all about what is in the photo
Thanks

I guess that 'old timer' jibe was pointed towards me - and would be right.

No John, I think Michael is confusing Alzheimers ( a Word closer to his Parlance) with "old Timers"

Criticism, when it is constructive is more than accepted , it's veiled sarcasm and dissent that is excepted.

I just have to say, the quality is NOT the criteria on which the selection of the Photograph is made, it is based on content or activity , if it was also based on the quality or value of the equipment used many members would be excluded so, rest assured it will never be attributed to the quality of the equipment, more on how you use it.

@michaelo at least we will all get to see one decent photo which obviously will be yours .unfortunatly you will be somewhat disappointed with at least one photo which will be mine as even with a half decent camera I couldn't take a photo to save my life, but to be perfectly honest I couldn't give a monkeys it's only about having a bit of a laugh for me.
So I'm looking forward to seeing at least one perfectly focused contrasting photo of the show, there's a €50 voucher up for grabs

My photo skills are awful, i have a super camera, and it says point and click, i do and it doesnt. Took me about 8 attempts to get a 1min video clip up loaded onto the site, my for sale stuff is taking by my nephew, my ph is a nokia house brick so camera is muck. My fish dont help none of them will stand still.
